Frequently asked Questions

Is this a show bike?

It's an old school bike which can be driven to it's limits on a daily basis. Reliability, durability, performance, servicability and handling were equally important during the build as the looks.

The passenger seat seems quite uncomfortable.

It is indeed only suitable for short distance. Enough though to get your lady to the next bar and back without major complaints.

What about longer rides?

Due to the nature of the ape hagers you might experience quite a lot of wind resistance. This is easy to overcome with your luggage roll mounted on the handlebars. Looks old school and protects you so much that you can smoke while rinding. The apes themselves provide a very comfortable riding position. Don't judge if you haven't tried it. We're riding apes since 15 years and wouldn't wanna change a thing. You can go for lower apes or completely different bars according to your height and preferences.
The seat is quite hard but provides nice body contours. We call this model "the hard ass", but also have softer models to choose from. The softest one is called "the wussy".
The size of the tank is a little downside. The engine is not a fuel saver, under normal conditions you get 150-170Kms out of the tank. Means you will have to plan your tank stops on longer rides.

How about the performance:

More than enough to go in circles around your friends with normal Harleys.

Why a Harley Replica Frame?

This is a high quality softail frame with forged connections, which has prooved to be reliabe under all circumstances and provides excellent handling due to it's proportions.

Why Revtech as a power plant?

It's a good compromise between power, reliability and price. The 3rd generation of Revtech engines has prooved to be reliable and powerfull, for a lot less of the cost to a comparable product. We can also put a new Harley in, being cheaper but having less power, or an S&S.

Why an open belt and a chain?

The open belt 3"BDL is literally indestructable and gives us the look that we want. We opted for a chain in the rear instead of a belt because of Africa. What happens if your rear belt snapps (due to too many little stones) in the middle of the Karoo on a Sunday afternoon? You're doomed. No one can help you, the next dealer is hundreds of Km away, you'll have to arrange for towing. And then the price tag of the belt and the many hours for repairs? No thank you. The chain on the contrary is of a common size, every dirt bike or super bike shop has stock, every farmer's appy can work on it. Quickly.

And the handling:

All our bikes are ment to be ridden. That's also the reason why we opt for more ground clearance. It doesn't look like it, but with a little practice you can corner this thing! The brakes work very well, too. They are Harley replicas, only that the Callahan is much lighter than a Harley.

What's in the leather puoch:

- an imperial tool set (even if you don't screw yourself, somebody might be able to help you, you never know)
- raingear
- a tire inflator spraycan

How servicable is she?

We're followers of the the KISS theory: "Keep It Simple, Stupid!" No fancy electronics or hidden service secrets. Anybody with some common sense and at least one right hand can service her. Change your oils, watch your brakepads, lube some here and there, keep your chain to the right tension, that's it! Even the tires you can get at every bike shop.

Your shop is close to the coast, how about rust?:

Since we moved to the coast in 2007, we have learned our ropes, rustwise. Even brand new Harleys rust in our showroom after a few days. On the Callahan we worked with special attention to the right materials. Stainless Steel, extremly well polished aluminium, and only highest quality chrome. We can also teach you some tricks how to keep her all shiny.

Can I buy the Callahan?

We're in the process of putting a concept together. The one in our showroom is a prototype which you can test ride. We plan to build each bike for the individual customer within 2 months time, according to the customers wish list. A new Callahan will come with all the proper papers and a 2 year warranty. The price will depend on the choice of engine and extras, we haven't done all calculations yet, but plan to stick close to the 200 mark.
